PHENND, African American Resource Center, and the Netter Center Presents: Communities Partnering with Colleges and Universities to Increase Diversity in the Classroom

This year, for our annual series “What can colleges and universities do to focus on K-12 schools?” we are highlighting efforts to increase teacher diversity, and how communities members can partner with these initiatives.

As part of the University of Pennsylvania’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Symposium on Social Change, we will hear from Sharif El-Mekki, Director of the Center for Black Educator Development (CBED) and former principal. The agenda will also include representatives from local colleges and universities who are members of a newly created Educator Diversity Consortium, as well as table top discussions on various aspects of “how to” get involved.

This event is sponsored by the Netter Center for Community Partnerships, Penn’s African-American Resource Center, and PHENND (Philadelphia Higher Education Network for Neighborhood Development).

Pre-registration is strongly encouraged.

Refreshments will be served at 5:00PM. Event will beging promptly at 5:30 PM.
